How Do I Fix a Leaky Vape?

Leaky vapes can be one of the most frustrating problems for both beginners and experienced users. Whether you find e-liquid pooling around the mouthpiece or dripping from the airflow vents, leaks are not only messy—they can waste your favorite juice and damage your device. Thankfully, most vape leaks are fixable with a few simple adjustments. Here’s how to identify the cause and stop the leak before it ruins your session.

One of the most common reasons for vape leaking is improper coil installation. If the coil isn’t screwed in tightly or aligned properly with the tank, it can leave small gaps that allow e-liquid to seep through. Always double-check that your coil is snug, but not overtightened, and compatible with your tank. Another frequent culprit is overfilling your tank. Most tanks need a little airspace at the top to create proper pressure and airflow—filling it to the brim can push liquid into the airflow chamber and cause leaking.

Your vaping technique can also contribute to leaks. Drawing too hard on a device that’s meant for a gentle pull (especially pod systems) can flood the coil and send juice where it doesn’t belong. Try to take slower, steady pulls and avoid aggressive inhales. Similarly, leaving your vape in hot environments (like a car in summer) can cause the e-liquid to thin and seep out more easily.

Using the wrong kind of e-liquid for your device can also be a problem. Sub-ohm tanks typically need thicker, high-VG liquids to function properly. If you’re using thin, high-PG juice in a sub-ohm setup, it may leak through the coil and airflow slots. Make sure you match your e-liquid to your tank type—if you're not sure which is right, our team at K Town Vape in Kennesaw, Georgia can help guide you.

Finally, check for worn-out or damaged O-rings. These tiny rubber seals inside your tank prevent leaks and maintain pressure. Over time, they can degrade, crack, or come loose. Replacing them with fresh ones is a cheap and easy fix that can completely stop leaks.

If you've tried all of the above and still can’t get the issue under control, bring your setup into K Town Vape. Our knowledgeable staff will inspect your device and help you find the root of the problem—plus recommend leak-resistant tanks, coils, and pods designed for your vaping style.
